Do you offer free quotes? We always offer free quotes. Both for one-time work and for maintenance plans.
Do you guarantee your work? If a customer is not satisfied we will gladly come back and discuss their concerns and address them until they are satisfied. Our business grows with maintenance plans and customers referring us to their friends and neighbors, so client satisfaction is top priority.
Do you always cut every week? Usually. But sometimes it is unnecessary. Late July/early August sometimes dries up a bit and grass grows slower. And into Fall you may not need weekly maintenance. On a rare occasion a lawn needs to be cut before the week is up.
I only want my lawn cut every other week. You can do that right? NO. A lawn should not have more than 1/3 of its length trimmed, and not more than 1.5″ at a time. Infrequent cutting means the lawn looks haggard between cuts, the mower blades have to hack through the lawn instead of trim it, resulting in excess wear on the equipment and a lousy, jagged cut to your grass. Then it leaves long pieces of grass that cause thatch buildup, choking your grass and giving refuge for lawn enemies like chinch bugs to nest and reproduce. Your lawn isn’t just a reflection of you, it is a reflection of us.
Do you guarantee an exact day of the week and time you will cut my lawn? We remain as consistent as possible, but weather and other things are always a factor.
Do you use fertilizer? We offer soil testing through the University of Maine and follow their recommendations for optimum soil health. We can guess at a treatment plan if you don’t have a soil test, and we always see an improvement. The 3 numbers on a fertilizer bag represent UP, DOWN, and ALL AROUND… leaf, root, and overall health. Most lawns on the MidCoast need lime to sweeten them to get the pH into an optimal range, and they benefit from a good fertilizer. A conversation with UME employee in the Agriculture Dept revealed that mossy lawns are responding well not just to a heavy hit of lime, but also an aggressive shock of Nitrogen, the first number on a fertilizer bag.
That said, a lawn cut frequently and properly can have the grass clippings left behind instead of bagged, and those clippings will break down to fertilize your lawn and shield the roots from the drying effects of the sun.
Can you email an invoice to me? Yes. And we offer the option to pay with a card.
Do you play music while you work? Sometimes in headphones if we are mulching or raking. Usually we have earplugs in, though, to muffle the noise from the engines.
Do you smoke on the job? Only if we’re working too fast!
Love the dogs, could you bring them along for a visit? If you promise to bathe them, absolutely!
Ben was an insurance agent for years. Does that help you in lawn care somehow? For starters, he makes sure we have a lot of liability coverage so the homeowners assume no risk. He knows what your insurance carrier is going to be looking for if they do a random exterior home inspection. Moss on the roof, mildew on siding, bushes and branches touching the house, lack of regular maintenance, etc. MidCoast LawnCare can help you address all those concerns. It also gives snowbirds confidence when they hire MidCoast Lawn Care to keep tabs on their home while they are away. Should something happen that requires a claim to be filed, Ben initiated hundreds of claims during his time as an agent and understands the process.
