What is your signature barefoot lawn?
We aim to have our lawns feel fantastic underfoot throughout the entire season. By cutting our lawns a little higher, we get deeper root growth. Deeper roots suffer droughts and temperature extremes better, keeping the grass lush and healthy.
How do you achieve such a clean cut?
We sharpen the mower blades daily. Through most of the season we run mulching decks, so none of the grass is discharged.
How often do you cut the lawn?
Weekly, usually. Proper maintenance intervals ensure a healthy lawn. If we get dry conditions and in late Fall you may not need weekly maintenance. Rain can also put us off the schedule.
Why do you turn down potential customers who only want 2 services a month?
I usually answer this “because it isn’t healthy for the lawn”. People often push for more, so here goes.
A lawn should have just 1/3 of its length trimmed, and not more than 1.5″ at a time. Infrequent cutting means the lawn looks haggard between cuts, and the mower blades have to hack through the grass instead of trim it, resulting in excess wear on the equipment and a lousy, jagged cut. Damaged grass is more susceptible to infections and diseases, leading to a yellowed and unhealthy appearance.
Regular mowing with a clean cut helps prevent weeds from establishing themselves in the lawn.
Infrequent cutting leaves long pieces of grass on the yard that cause thatch buildup, choking your grass and giving refuge for lawn enemies like chinch bugs to nest and reproduce.
It takes longer to cut an overgrown lawn, so you won’t save any money, but it would put us off the schedule of our other properties.
When we accept a new client we refer to the property as one of our lawns. We take ownership of it. Your lawn isn’t just a reflection of you, it is a reflection of us.
Do you guarantee your work?
If we were ever to have a customer who was not satisfied we would gladly come back and discuss their concerns and address them. Our business grows with maintenance plans and customers referring us to their friends and neighbors, so client satisfaction is top priority.
How do you bill?
Monthly via email. And we accept cash, checks, cards, Venmo, PayPal, Zelle, Melio, and silver bars.
How do you handle late payments?
Most of our customers come to us via referral, so we rarely have issues with non-payment. Delinquent accounts are assessed a $39 late fee each month. If we have to go to court you will be responsible for all court costs plus a $500 additional fee to cover our time and materials.
Are you insured?
Yes. We have both liability and workers compensation insurance. Our crew are employees who receive a payroll check each week. This removes risk to our clients.
Many lawn service providers are uninsured and their crew are not on payroll. Unless those workers have their own liability insurance and are receiving a trackable check each week, they are not subcontractors. They are strictly a liability to homeowners. Ask your insurance agent how much risk you assume by having uninsured laborers on your property.
Do you smoke on the job?
Only if we’re working too fast! Currently none of our crew are smokers. We have had smokers and they are not permitted to indulge on client properties.
Can I pet Grizzly?
He would enjoy that. Griz is always in one of the trucks, so he may well be at your house sometimes. He has no aggression reflex, so you can reach in the window and say hi.
